Strap to a tree, buried spare or ground anchor. Hook the winch to a rated recovery point.

Work the handle. The ratchet holds the load between strokes, so you can stop and breathe.

Ease on the throttle as the line takes up. Most recoveries need a metre or two.

Isn't it hard work?
Yes, you're the motor. Most recoveries only need a metre or two of pull, and you can work the handle while the engine takes some of the strain.
Why not just fit an electric winch?
If you winch every weekend, fit one. If you'd rather not fit a bar, wire in a battery and tie a winch to one vehicle, Yakka lives in the back and comes out when you need it, on any vehicle you own.
What if there's no tree?
Use a buried spare, a ground anchor or another vehicle. The Solo Recovery Playbook walks through each setup.
My car has no rated recovery points.
Never hook to a tie-down point. Use a rated recovery point or a rated hitch receiver. Not sure what your vehicle has? Email us the make and model.
What if I never use it?
That's the hope. It's cheap insurance that lives in the back.
